πΊοΈ DTI 2025β2026 Roadmap
Welcome to the updated roadmap for the Distro Transparency Index (DTI). This page outlines our revised timeline and key milestones through 2025 and into 2026. As the project evolves, our goal remains clear: to provide a meaningful, methodologically sound, and independent evaluation of transparency across Linux distributions.
𧱠May β September 2025: Foundations and Outreach
- Finalise and publish the DTI 2025 Limited Edition in September 2025, produced independently by a single author based on publicly available data and voluntary feedback.
- Reach out again to distributions that have not yet responded.
- Open preliminary discussions with legal experts to explore the creation of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in the UK.
- Identify and invite at least two additional founding members for formal legal structuring.
- Expand documentation and scoring of existing distributions already analyzed.
ποΈ October β December 2025: Formalisation Phase
- Draft a formal constitution for the DTI CIO and begin the incorporation process.
- Establish the charter for a Review Board composed of volunteers and experts.
- Begin public recruitment of contributors and reviewers.
- Launch the first community survey on the DTI methodology to gather feedback.
π January β April 2026: Data Expansion and Methodology Review
- Evaluate additional Linux distributions and edge cases (e.g., small, regional, discontinued).
- Refine scoring criteria based on survey feedback and Review Board input.
- Conduct transparency audits on published scores.
- Publish draft scoring methodology as open documentation.
π’ May β June 2026: Community Engagement and Beta Index
- Release the βDTI 2026 Preview Indexβ with scores open for public and maintainer review.
- Organize public Q&A sessions to discuss transparency standards and scoring logic.
- Begin work on an open contribution system for community updates and feedback.
π July β September 2026: Final Index and Institutionalisation
- Integrate public and community feedback into the scoring framework.
- Publish the definitive DTI 2026 Index on September 3, 2026.
- Finalise the legal creation of the DTI CIO and publish the first Annual Transparency Report.
- Begin preparation for the 2027 edition of the index.
β Commitment to Completion
Even in the absence of formal structures or external support, the Distro Transparency Index will continue.
The DTI 2025 edition, to be published in September 2025, will serve as a limited and fully independent release, compiled by a single open-source enthusiast.
The DTI 2026 aims to evolve this foundation into a broader community-led and legally structured initiative.
π Important Notice: DTI Update in Progress
